The Georgetown University Stroke Center has been certified by the Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center and has been recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for achieving the highest levels of quality of care.

As the leading academic stroke center within the nation’s capital, the Georgetown University Stroke Center provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for stroke and cerebrovascular disorders. Multidisciplinary care is provided to ensure that patients receive state of art evaluation and management with access to cutting edge new treatments and research protocols.

The Georgetown Stroke Center is staffed by a team of specially trained neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, intensive care specialists, emergency department physicians, experienced nurse practitioners, and rehabilitation specialists. They have instant access to the most powerful tools available, including advanced diagnostic brain MR and CT imaging. The team is trained to act as rapidly as possible to give the patient the best possible chance of stroke recovery. The physicians in the Georgetown Stroke Center are nationally recognized leaders in their fields.

The program is fully supported by the latest technology, including new brain perfusion and noninvasive vascular imaging equipment. We use the most advanced surgical and microsurgical techniques available today, including intraoperative angiography, microvascular surgery, and carotid endartectomy.
